As retailers and logistics providers face mounting pressure from online demand, labor shortages, and rising warehouse costs, AutoStore replaces traditional shelving with a compact, cube-based system that enables robots to deliver bins directly to operators. This design provides up to four times the storage capacity of conventional warehouses, near-perfect picking accuracy, and continuous uptime, all within the same footprint. AutoStore’s technology powers fulfillment for leading brands, including PUMA, Gucci, HelloFresh, Best Buy, and more.
“Being named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025 is a powerful recognition of the incredible team behind AutoStore and our mission to make order fulfillment smarter and more adaptable,” said Parth Joshi, Chief Product Officer at AutoStore. “Our teams are building some of the most advanced technologies in the industry — helping businesses keep their promises to customers, even when space, labor, or time are in short supply.”
With more than 1,750 systems deployed across 60 countries and 44,000 robots moving 2.5 billion products annually, AutoStore is redefining how the world fulfills orders, from retail to healthcare to food systems.
This year, AutoStore adapted its storage and retrieval technology for use in agriculture through a partnership with vertical farming company OnePointOne, creating Opollo Farm, the world’s first vertical farm operated entirely by robots. By adapting its cube-based system to manage living plants, Opollo Farm automates airflow, irrigation, lighting, and nutrient delivery, enabling a high-density, low-waste farming model that uses 95% less water and reduces production costs by up to 60% for select crops,

“Opollo Farm highlights how precision robotics can reshape industries beyond traditional warehouses,” said Sam Bertram, CEO of OnePointOne. “Together with AutoStore, we’ve shown that sustainable, automated farming can be both scalable and profitable. The reliability, scalability, and density of the Autostore system is what vertical farming has been missing all along.”
The first Opollo Farm in Phoenix, Arizona, now supplies Whole Foods Market with microgreens, basil, and packaged salads in as little as 15 days from planting to harvest, cutting supply chains in half and reducing emissions associated with long-distance transportation.
AutoStore’s new technology suite, comprising CarouselAI, VersaPort, the Essentials Software Package, and the Service Tower, was also central to its recognition by TIME.
In addition to these innovations, AutoStore will announce its latest product portfolio on October 22nd.
Unlike competitors offering isolated tools, AutoStore provides a modular, connected ecosystem applicable across industries from e-commerce fulfillment to vertical farming. Solutions are available worldwide via partners including Element Logic, Kardex, Swisslog, and Bastian Solutions. To learn more, please visit autostoresystem.com.
